The Eyjafjarðarsveit campsite is located north of the municipality’s sports center. The area is well sheltered from the weather, and the campsite is situated on flat, dry ground, which makes it possible to open the area early in spring.
There are toilets at the campsite and facilities for washing dishes with hot and cold water. Indoor facilities open in the basement of the sports center at the beginning of June and remain open until August 20. There you will find restrooms and showers, as well as a washing machine that guests can use for a fee.
Campsite wardens work on site during the summer, and services are also available at the reception of the sports center, which is open from 6:30–22:00 on weekdays and 10:00–20:00 on weekends and public holidays. There you will find a self-service machine where you can book and pay for accommodation at the campsite, as well as a small shop and coffee counter. The staff of the sports center and the campsite wardens are known for their excellent service and always strive to assist our guests in the best possible way.
A tourist tax of 400 ISK is added to all sold overnight stays (each night for each pitch, regardless of the number of individuals staying).
Pitches in areas B, C, D and E can be booked in advance on the Reisa.is website starting May 1.
We post updates on the sports center’s Facebook page if our campsite becomes full. https://www.facebook.com/Sundlauginhrafnagili/
The campsite is divided into 5 areas, explained in more detail below:
Area A
Area B
Area C
Area D
Area E
Activities
A multi-use sports field, a jumping pillow, and an impressive outdoor basketball court are located next to the campsite, as well as the playground of Hrafnagil School where various play equipment has long been popular with children.
There are many hiking trails around the Hrafnagil area, and information can be obtained from campsite wardens and staff at the sports center. Work has also been underway on a recreational area below the village after the road was moved further down, and in the near future this will become an outdoor recreation area that campsite guests can enjoy, just like local residents.
Please note
Construction work is currently underway at the sports center and Hrafnagil School, where the school and sports facilities are being expanded. There may therefore be some activity and noise at the construction site, but it is unlikely that this will have a direct impact on campsite guests.
Age restriction during Car Days
During the Car Days event in Akureyri, there is a minimum age limit of 30 years at the campsite. It is not possible to book through the booking website during this period; reservations can only be made by email at sundlaug@esveit.is or by phone. Families are still welcome, as our campsite is a family campsite. Security staff will be present during the Car Days weekend. This arrangement has worked well and families interested in cars have been satisfied with it.
