Hamrar
Hamrar is one of Iceland's largest campsites located in a beautiful environment under the cliffs to the south and above Akureyri. The campsite is located at the outdoor recreation area in Kjarnaskógur. Great hiking trails nearby and close to all services in Akureyri. Hamrar is open all year round.
About Hamrar
One of the largest and most elegant camping sites in the country in a beautiful environment under the rocks to the south and above Akureyri. The campsite is located at the outdoor recreation area in Kjarnaskógi. Great hiking trails nearby. Close to all services in Akureyri. Drive past the airport and then turn up the first exit (road) on the right and drive as the road leads out through Kjarnaskóg. When you come out of the forest again, drive a little further and turn left up the first exit (road) after Kjarnaskóg.
Winter season
During winter only parts off the area are open and after it starts snowing we only keep the car parks around the reception open for our visitors. These parkings are cleared off snow daily if needed. All the parkings have electricity hookups and are close to our facilities (toilets, showers, laundry, kitchen and dining hall). Wardens are at work during weekdays from 8-16 and come for cleaning and surveillance during the evenings and weekends. Booking and payments should be done at the latest up on arrival through this website. It is important to register the licence plate number off your car/camper in the booking so our staff do not have to wake you up early in the morning or late at night for checking the payment.
Tent surfaces
The area is divided into 16 campsites, most of which are 3-4000 square meters. The surfaces are all flat and even and well maintained. All of them have trees. The facilities are all very good. Electricity is available on all tent surfaces and three-pin connectors must be used. In the area, there are several service buildings with toilets, showers, access for the disabled, outdoor sinks for washing dishes, etc. In the service cabin at the entrance to the area there are also toilets, showers, a washing machine, food facilities and a computer with internet access. In the area, there are facilities for the disposal of toilets and waste water from campers and caravans..

Winter season
During winter our parkings are used for campers and there is no or limited access through our gates to the campgrounds. Our service buildings next to the parking are open 24/7.

The sleeping loft is on the upper floor at Hamrar 2, toilets, kitchen and common area are on the first floor so you can expect other guests to use that facilities during your stay.

Good to know
During winter our parkinglots are used for guest staying over night, so there is no need to enter the area through the barrier gates. The service building around these parkings are open 24/7. The roads up to the campsite are normally cleared around 9:00-10:00 if needed and the parknings are cleared off snow after lunch. The Service house at Hamrar 2 with the kicthen and common area should not be used after midnight.
